My New Poetry Collection, Too Busy 4 Heartbreak, is Out Now
Hello! Good afternoon on this gorgeous Thursday in July. I’ve been MIA on this blog recently. (And am about to be again because I’m currently soaking up saltwater and sunbathing at my family’s beachside cabin on Vancouver Island.) However, for a good reason: I’ve been working on my new book, Too Busy 4 Heartbreak. It’s a pocket-sized poetry collection consisting of forty-nine poems, thoughts, and short stories. It’s available now via Amazon, and will (hopefully) be coming to my bookstore soon, too.
There was a time I didn’t think I’d write one book, let alone three. And while raising twins! It’s been a lot of work. Not to mention, effort, time, creativity. I’m so proud of myself for making the time to do this. After all, I think I’d lose my mind if I couldn’t write. So instead, you get to read fragments of my mind in Too Busy 4 Heartbreak. I told one friend that it was embarrassing to write poems with so much feeling in them and she corrected me: “Is it embarrassing? Or is it vulnerable?”
Too Busy 4 Heartbreak is about love, desire, broken dreams, and being a busy woman in a life that isn’t totally hers.
Leading up to the release of my third book, I posted 13 poems/thoughts/stories on social media. I wanted people to be able to get a feel for what the content would be like in the book. Maybe I also wanted to get a feel for it too? After all, I’ve never really written “poetry” before. When I was coming up with the concept for this book, I kept writing “poems” in quotations and adding: “Or something like that.” If you’re really strict about what poetry is, then this book might not be for you. I was wildly winging it, but I can promise you that there are a lot of emotions packed into the microscopic passages.
This book is dedicated to my mother, Soledad, who passed away in August 2022. We had a trying relationship, but she was still my mum. Of course, there were great moments and fun times lighting the darkness; lots of laughs and inside jokes alongside harsh words and emotional whiplash. She tried her best. I’m still sorting through some of the baggage she left me with, and that’s where the inspiration for a handful of the poems came from. I’m not totally healed, but I’m working on it—especially for my kids.
Oh, and a little bit about the size of this book: it’s adorable, tiny, and perfect to put in your purse or pocket on-the-go. Waiting at an appointment, your boring commute, solo lunch, afternoon at a coffee shop, on a plane. The possibilities are endless. I’m not kidding when I say it’s really cute. But you’ll have to decide for yourself when you hold it in the palm of your hand. I also put together a playlist to match the vibe: heartache, love, lust, being a busy woman.

Please like, share, comment, buy a copy of Too Busy 4 Heartbreak wherever you find it online, and leave a review if you do! It means so much to me and really helps indie authors get their work out there. Thank you, and I appreciate you. Now I’m logging off to go lay on the beach and swim in the ocean with my kids.

Ps. I know I used a lot of horse imagery, but the book isn’t only about horses. Actually, it isn’t really about horses at all. I just love them and think they’re beautiful and when you read it, I promise it’ll make sense.
